Dentures Q&A

What are dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth that replace missing natural teeth. You might choose dentures if you have lost permanent teeth because of severe dental decay, trauma, or the need for extraction. Jamison Innovative Dentistry providers offer different types of dentures to match your needs.

What are the benefits of dentures?

Some of the many benefits you can expect when choosing dentures at Jamison Innovative Dentistry include:

  • Natural-looking teeth
  • No more gaps
  • Clearer speech
  • Easier chewing
  • Maximum comfortability
  • Improved facial contours
  • Self-confidence

Dentures available at Jamison Innovative Dentistry are strong and long-lasting, and they look just like beautiful natural teeth.

What are the different types of dentures?

Some of the different types of dentures available at Jamison Innovative Dentistry include:

Traditional dentures

Traditional dentures replace all or some of your natural teeth. You can take them out of your mouth at night when you sleep or as needed.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures attach to artificial metal tooth roots. They stay fixed in place (are not removable). Your dentist surgically places the implants within your jawbone and attaches dentures to implants after a period of healing.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace some of your natural teeth. They could replace just your upper or lower teeth, for example.

Full dentures

Full dentures replace all of your natural teeth. Your dentist might first extract some remaining teeth before fitting you for full dentures.

Overdentures

Your dentist places overdentures over the top of some of your remaining natural teeth.

Immediate dentures

If you need tooth extraction, your dentist can place immediate dentures in your mouth right away after the procedure. That way you don’t have to go without teeth for any period of time. However, you may need to have the dentures readjusted after your gums and jawbone heal.

Are dentures right for me?

To find out if you’re a candidate for dentures, the Jamison Innovative Dentistry team examines your teeth and gums, reviews your oral health history, and discusses your preferences with you. If needed, they take dental X-rays and tailor a dentures treatment plan that best matches your personalized needs.
